As part of a feasibility study, we’re currently exploring different pyrolysis plants across Europe and beyond.
We started where we’re based: Freiburg.
👣 First stop: the municipal pyrolysis plant operated by ASF (Abfallwirtschaft und Stadtreinigung Freiburg). Their PYREG unit transforms 1,000 tons of biogenic municipal waste into about 333 tons of high-grade biochar every year.
♻️ The plant uses its own waste heat to pre-dry the biomass.
🍇 The biochar is distributed mainly to regional vineyard farmers, helping them build drought resilience and close carbon cycles in the soil.
But one solution doesn’t fit all. We’ll continue scouting and keep you posted.
Big thanks to Marc Loskarn for guiding us through this impressive turnover site for municipal waste treatment.
